Private Adoptions

All around the province, animal rescue groups and shelters are full to overflowing.  This listing has been set up in cooperation with NS Rescues, Animal Clinics,  TNR Groups, Animal Control and SPCA Branches .

THE RULES

  • The NS Homeless Pet Project will only accept listings that are referred from one of the above mentioned groups or
  • Listings that have been approved and posted on the www.petfinder.com classified listings.
  • When a group has agreed to refer your listing, please send them an email with a complete description of the pet.  This should include age/spayed or neutered/sex/medical history and a brief description of why the pet needs a new home.  Please include a picture.
  • Above all, include a working email for contact.  For privacy issues you may wish to create one for this purpose.
  • When your pet has been adopted, please contact the Webmaster.  Otherwise, the listing will be removed after thirty days.  We will happily relist, but it will be your responsibility to keep track and contact us.

WEBMASTER NOTE:   For the protection of your pet, a modest adoption fee must be asked for .  Nobody wants to see these pets wind up as bait dogs, feeders or research animals.

HELPFUL HINT:  If you are looking to find homes for kittens or puppies, ask for a check from the adopter for a reasonable amount.  Keep this check on file and when they produce proof of spay or neuter, rip up the check.

SOME FOOD FOR THOUGHT ABOUT THE 'FREE TO A GOOD HOME' LISTINGS IN THE FREE ONLINE AD SITES:

  • things are not always what they seem .... behavior problems are often masked behind phrases like " we no longer have time for" and my particular favorite 'needs a home in the country"
  • nor is everyone who they claim to behind the anonymous email.  Your pet could wind up living in a cage and being bred to death... with no medical attention.  Or he or she could be used as a bait dog for dogfighting.  There are endless possibilities for Very Unhappy Tails out there.
  • Health issues are seldom advertised and could cost a kind heart a small fortune in vet bills
  • Not to mention being a very popular place to peddle stolen pets
  • Its a popular spot for backyard breeders who don't do the proper genetic screening to peddle the puppies.  Unwary purchasers are often left with the heartache of high vet bills as a result
  • There are no breed limit laws in Canada.  What does that mean?  There can be health problems waiting like a ticking time bomb for those who purchase retired breeding dogs from backyard breeders.
  • And last but not least, the 'free to a good home' only offers a curbside guarantee instead of the lifelong support that reputable breeders and rescues offer.
