Oh No!  Your pet is missing!  What can you do?

An Ounce of Prevention

  • make sure that all your dogs have a current license
  • have clear color pictures of all your pets and have an online file of pictures readily available for an emergency.   Note .. if you are travelling, put your pictures somewhere online where you can access them from anywhere .. i.e. facebook, Picassa or your blog / website
  • While microchipping may be fairly controversial, it IS the only safe and reliable way to identify cats ( who should not for safety's sake be wearing conventional collars)
  • Spay and neuter your pets.  It DOES cut down on the roaming.

When sending a lost and found listing in to this site, please include the following:

  • a good description of the pet
  • date and time your pet went missing
  • at least one good picture of the pet.  Please note that it is not site policy to post pictures of children in our publicly available listings which will have personal contact information.
  • a contact email and/ or a phone number.
  • if you have started a facebook group ... let me know and I will also put that on my blog
  • If you do not receive a confirmation email please contact the webmaster link at the bottom of the page, because that will mean that your listing has not been received.
  • send all of this to lostandfoundpets@nshomelesspets.com

SPECIAL NOTE:   Sometimes when people find their pets, they get so excited they forget to let us know :)  So there is a NEW policy, and that is that all lost and found listings will only be kept on the site for six months.   We will gladly relist as many times as necessary, but it will be your responsibility to email us with a new request.

Oh No!  You have found a pet!  What should you do?

  • Call the radio station
  • Call the animal clinics in the area to see if anyone has lost a pet
  • Post a found pet listing on Kijiji
  • Post a found pet listing in the Petfinder Classifieds
  • People often do not want to call their local animal control out of concern for what might happen to the pet afterwards.  Animal Control varies so widely in Nova Scotia that this has to be a personal call.. but do remember that AC may be the first place the pets owner's check.  Its also important to remember that after a couple of days, in most places there is a 'feed me I'm yours' policy that may prohibit an AC from being able to accept the pet.  If you don't call AC. please pull out all the stops to contact all the other venues listed here.

GOOD LUCK!
