Education

Education is not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire.     William Butler Yeats

Why should Humane Education be taught in all NS schools?

  • All children in the province would be taught. Right now its only available when the hardworking volunteers doing Animal Rescue can spare the time.
  •  Our children would be safer because they would all learn how to interact with animals properly
  • It would save a lot of money for the future. More pets would be spayed and neutered. More would be microchipped.
  • Children would understand why buying animals from pet stores supports puppy mills and backyard breeders.

Webmaster Note:  If you live in Nova Scotia and believe that safer communities tomorrow will start with Humane Education in the public school system today, please contact the NS Minister of Education

Until that time, if you are looking for resources to Teach Your Children Well :

Teach your children well ... by example:

  • Spay and neuter your own pets
  • Bring your pets with you when you move
  • Keep your pets when you  have a new baby
  • Find a reputable breeder for your next puppy , or
  • Adopt a homeless pet
  • If you want your children to experience the miracle of birth and the joy of of newborn puppies or kittens, apply to foster for your local shelter or rescue.
  • Volunteer with your local rescue or shelter, and last but not least
  • Be a good neighbour.  When family and neighbours need help, walk the dog after someone has surgery or has a baby ... or feed their cat ... or change the litterbox.   It could make a world of difference.

My grandfather used to say that "more is caught than taught"    Teaching Your Children Well means leading by example ... otherwise they will "do as you do, not as you say"
